Starting Over Coaching
Starting over can happen after a breakup or divorce, a major life transition, a change in relationships, or simply reaching a point where the life you once knew no longer feels the same.
Sometimes the hardest part is not knowing exactly what comes next. You may be grieving what has ended while also trying to make decisions about your future. Parts of your old identity, routines, relationships or expectations may still feel important, even when you know something needs to change.
Starting over coaching offers a space to explore where you are now, what you are carrying with you, and what you want the next part of your life to stand for. Rather than rushing towards a new version of yourself, the focus is on understanding what matters to you and beginning to find a direction that feels genuinely your own.
Our Framework
My Motivation. My Journey. My Decisions.
Rooted in the therapeutic tradition of Existential Analysis and Logotherapy, founded by Viktor Frankl and developed further by Alfried Längle. Our framework and digestible content, co-created by Meaningful Paths Founder David Chorlton and Therapist Sandy ElChaar, can be used for individual reflection and can also help practitioners support their own wellbeing and their clients.

When starting over feels overwhelming
Major transitions can create a strange space between what was and what comes next.
You might know that you cannot return to exactly how things were, but still have little clarity about where you are going. Motivation can disappear. Decisions that once felt simple can become difficult. You might question your identity, your relationships, your priorities or even what you want from life.
Within the Meaningful Paths Mountain Framework, we can think about this as standing somewhere on the mountain where the Fog has become heavier.
The aim is not necessarily to see the entire path.
Sometimes we only need enough clarity to recognise the next meaningful step.
What are you carrying into your next chapter?
Our Backpack represents the experiences we carry with us.
Starting over does not mean emptying the backpack or pretending that the past did not matter. Relationships, disappointments, achievements, mistakes, losses and experiences can all become part of how we understand ourselves.
But transitions can give us an opportunity to look inside.
What from your past do you want to carry forward?
What feels particularly heavy right now?
What have your experiences taught you about yourself?
And is there something you are ready to begin putting down?
Leaving something behind does not necessarily mean forgetting it. Sometimes it means grieving something we loved, accepting that a chapter has changed, and gradually allowing our relationship with it to change too.
Reconnecting with what matters to you
When familiar structures disappear, our Guiding Stars — our values — can become especially important.
Instead of beginning with What should I do with my life now?, it can help to begin with smaller questions:
What matters deeply to me?
What kind of person do I want to be during this transition?
What do I want more of in the life I am creating?
What no longer feels aligned with who I am becoming?
Values do not provide a perfect set of instructions. But they can offer orientation when the path itself remains uncertain.
From there, the Compass represents purpose and direction. Purpose does not always need to be one enormous life mission. After a significant transition, purpose might initially be found in rebuilding relationships, caring for yourself, creating something, exploring a neglected part of your identity, contributing to others, or simply taking one meaningful step forward.
Starting over doesn’t mean starting from nothing
There is an important difference between starting over and starting from nothing.
You arrive at this point with experiences, relationships, strengths, values, knowledge and parts of yourself that have developed throughout everything that came before.
The question is not simply:
How do I get my old life back?
Nor does it have to be:
How do I completely reinvent myself?
A different question might be:
Given everything I have lived through, what feels worth carrying forward — and what kind of life do I want to begin creating from here?
Starting over coaching can help you explore those questions and turn reflection into small, meaningful actions. You do not need to know exactly where the path leads before you begin walking it.
Sometimes the next step is enough.
