Mindfulness Meditation for Beginners

mindfulness meditation

Meditation and mindfulness work in tandem to help you clear your mind, find greater focus, and give you the tools you need to stay present and live life in the moment. The benefits are endless, here are just a few of them.

  • Helps us to cope with stress – often leading to lower blood pressure for those susceptible to high blood pressure
  • Alleviates symptoms of anxiety and depression, taking the edge off
  • Increases energy levels
  • Improves attention span, allowing us to focus better and for longer

All it requires is taking some time out of your day to sit quietly and practice training your focus.

What’s the difference between mindfulness and meditation?

Meditation is multi-faceted in that it can be done in a variety of ways. When people meditate, they use different techniques (such as mindfulness, or focusing on breathing, objects, thoughts, mantras or activities). Usually, meditation requires setting aside 10 – 20 minutes, sitting in silence, and working on training your attention and focus.

Mindfulness involves learning to be completely present in the moment, being fully aware of your feelings and thoughts without becoming distracted. Mindfulness helps you to stay in touch with your surroundings, nurtures a greater appreciation of life, and allows you to tackle your issues in a more productive, mentally sustainable way. It can be achieved anywhere, at any time and in any situation. It simply requires you to pay attention to what is going on.

How they work together

Meditation and mindfulness go hand-in-hand, they enrich each other. Meditation helps you to improve focus, meaning you will find it easier to practice mindfulness and bringing yourself back into the present throughout your day.
